I had tummy tuck and liposuction two years ago on 2011. Everything looked great in the beginning, but I noticed hard knots in the bottom of my back. After time, I gained some weight and I now notice skin "rippling" all over my stomach, back, and sides. I'm so sad about this!! I have never been overweight and didnt have much fat to begin with, but I now feel my appearance is worse than before! Is there anything that can be done to erase these marks??
Answer: Rippling after liposuction It is very difficult to determine the answer to your question without an exam. But in general, grooving or rippling seen after liposuction can be caused by poor technique or when liposuction is performed on very heavy patients. If multiple cannula sites are not used, then the cannulas can cause grooves in the tissues that can be unsightly. If too much fatty tissue is removed from an area, then the irregularities can be difficult to fix. If not enough tissue was removed, the solution is sometimes a bit easier. Your options might include repeat liposuction, repeat liposuction without the removal of fat (just a smoothing out process), or possibly even fat grafting to replace fat if there are areas that have been overtreated.

Answer: I have hard knots and skin ripping/cellulite in areas where I had Liposuction. How can I get rid of them? This would be difficult to give advice without photos or an exam. Additional liposuction or fat grafting or a skin excisional procedure may be options.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA

Answer: Liposuction Thank you for the question. These knots are probably just scar tissue caused by the liposuction, this is normal as fat cells left behind gather together and make them. I can suggest an UL massage, the ultrasonic waves can help break up the knots and give you best results.Dr. Campos

Answer: Irregularities after liposuction/tummy tuck I'll speak in general terms as the specifics would require an exam. Generally speaking, irregularities after liposuction are due to uneven suctioning at the initial treatment. This can be because of the nature of liposuction in large volumes or, as it sounds in your case, the danger of liposuction in a thin person without extreme attention to detail. If an uneven amount of fat is suctioned from different areas, they will appear as divots. If the skin does not shrink adequately it can appear as ripples. The former would be expected to get worse with weight gain but the latter would be expected to get better with weight gain. Revision liposuction is a challenge and requires a skilled and well trained surgeon willing to pay a lot of time and attention to detail. Getting it some better is fairly easy but getting it fixed is fairly challenging. It is likely best to find a board certified plastic surgeon who has some experience with this sort of thing and who makes you feel comfortable. Go see a few surgeons, all of whom should be plastic surgeons certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, until you find the one you feel confident in. Once you have had a bad experience, trust in your surgeon that he or she will work to give you the best possible outcome is key.Best,Dr. Pyle
