I wanted to get a djs but was told I am not a candidate and could benefit from a sliding genioplasty which I’ve went ahead and scheduled. I would like a second opinion on if this procedure is appropriate for me
Answer: IT's an option Assuming your teeth fit together well, a sliding genioplasty can work. Or, with less cost, recovery, and hardware, you could get an in office chin implant which would also look fabulous. Total surgery time about 20-30 minutes and you go right home.

Answer: Double Jaw Surgery vs Sliding Genioplasty Thank you for your series of pictures. I think that you would be a good candidate for a genioplasty. I do agree that you probably would be a double jaw surgery to get the maximal result. If you decided not to have double jaw surgery, then the next best treatment that would improve your profile would be a sliding genioplasty only. Best wishes. Answer: Sliding genioplasty Based on your photos, you are a candidate for a sliding genioplasty. A chin implant is another viable option in your case as well. The sliding genioplasty will do a better job diminishing your lip incompetence.

Answer: Sliding genioplasty, lower jaw advancement Due to severe deformity of the lower jaw, sliding genioplasty is a better solution than an implant. However, you should consider lower jaw surgery as well. You should check this issue with your surgeon and possibly do both procedures in the same surgery. Good luck.

Answer: Genioplasty Based on what you describe in your pictures, I think you are an exceptionally good candidate for a genioplasty. I suggest having a few in person consultations with oral surgeons in your community who have extensive cranial facial surgery experience. I suggest getting a formal assessment regarding facial, skeletal structure and understanding of all treatment options, including potential more advanced mandibular surgery. You may for a more simple procedure, but having a quality assessment, and better understanding of all surgical options, tends to lead to better decision-making and overall higher patient satisfaction, regardless of what procedure you choose. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had similar facial characteristics to your own. Bring your own facial pictures with you to use as a reference during consultations, especially when reviewing before, and after pictures. Generally speaking in my opinion, and experience provider should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients for commonly performed procedures. Being shown only a handful of pre-selected images, representing only the best results of a providers career may be insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like in the hands of each provider, what your results will look like or how many of these procedures that surgeon has actually done. There is a significant difference among providers in all medical specialties. Finding the right provider is an important part of maximizing term patient satisfaction and minimizing the chance of disappointment, complications, or the need for revision surgery. For that reason, I generally recommend patient schedule multiple consultations before selecting a provider or considering scheduling surgery. There’s no correct number of consultations needed. No more consultations you have the more likely you are defined the better provider for your needs. This type of work is sometimes done by both plastic surgeons and oral surgeons. My background isn’t plastic surgery and my personal opinion is that oral surgeons may have a slight upper hand in regards to making quality assessments and offering more advanced treatment options. In the end, the background is not as important as experience and skill. You can also consult with plastic surgeons to see what they have to say. Consider consulting with providers from both backgrounds if you have the time and energy. Considering the type of surgery you are contemplating and the impact it will have I think it’s worthyof putting in the effort to have more consultations than people may think is necessary in order to maximize the effort of finding the best provider Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD.
