Ear pinning, or otoplasty, is a procedure used to bring the outside portion of the ear closer to the head. This can be done through several different methods, depending on surgeon preference. Additionally, some patients may desire earlobe reduction or alteration at the same time. An in office exam and discussion with a surgeon who performs these procedures is recommended.
Hello Hollygolightly_, hope you are well! Based on the photos you have provided, you would be a candidate for otoplasty. Sometimes called "ear pinning" surgery, otoplasty is most commonly performed to reduce the visibility of the ears on the anterior view (as you have shown here). Just as rhino-plasty re-shapes the nose, oto-plasty re-shapes the ears. The actual size of the ear (i.e. vertical height) is typically left unchanged, because that is less important than how far the ear protrudes from the head/scalp. This surgery can be done under local anesthesia (or general if that's the patient's preference) and is low-risk with minimal down time. Hope this information helps!Best,Dr. Tower
Thanks for your question. You have the classic congenital protruding ear on the right and less so on the left. You are a good candidate for a bilateral otoplasty. Please see a board certified plastic surgeon experienced in this procedure.
Thank you for your question. Ear pinning (or otoplasty) is a procedure in which the upper fold of the ear is folded backward, and the bowl of the ear is pinned back. Based on your photos, there would be ability to set your ears back into your desired position. This is a procedure that may be performed under anesthesia, or awake with some sedation and numbing depending on patient preference. I hope this helps, and all the best!-Dr. P
