Feedback please on 5-FU injection at 12 months post revision rhinoplasty

Question

I am at 12 months post revision rhinoplasty. My surgeon injected me a total of 3 times so far with steroids (a milder version of Kenalog) which has helped with healing of the bridge very well. However, the tip is still quite bulbous and due to my thick skin I was wondering if adding 5-FU to the steroid at this stage could help things a bit more? I have read from surgeons who used 5-Fu during initial stage of healing but can it be used 12 months in?

Good Morning! Great question. 5-FU can help to reduce any swelling and at 12 months, there still may be benefit if trialed. I often increase the steroid component, instead. For example, I'll start with K10 (mild) and mix in a small amount of K40 (strong) to titrate to effect. I find this to be very helpful in patient's with refractory swelling and thicker skin. I would tape nightly as well to provide compression. Hope this helps!
