My turkey neck is still there. Does it mean my chin Smart Lipo failed?

I had a chin lipo/smart lipo procedure in the beginning of July. I was told I would be able to see the result after all the swollen, bruises calmed down. I followed the recovery instructions diligently and has been patient. However, It's been two months now. I didn't gain weight but my turkey neck is still there. Does it mean my procedure failed? Should I give it a try again? I feel frustrated what to do now....

If there's a significant degree of loose skin under the chin, skin needs to be removed to cure the turkey neck. Lipo and smart lipo are only effective if the skin is bulging and relatively tight to begin with.

I treat this everyday in my practice, most often a combination is needed if you have loose skin to start and less fat than skin. You may be a surgical candidate but you do not need surgery for improvement. Properly performed liposuction with energy based devices and physical fat removal will do fantastic to remove the fat, lift the skin, and contour the jawline -- if done by an expert. I pretreat everyone with Botox 1-2 weeks before surgery to relax the neck muscles, allowing for better retraction of the skin after surgery. Then after treatment we do skin tightening with Venus Legacy to improve the results and decrease the neck swelling. Sometimes we add ThermiRF to additionally tighten. I suggest you only see an expert for treatment of this area as a meticulous surgeon is required to get great results and complications in this area can be devastating both medically and cosmetically. A new medication that is used to remove chin fat with injections called Kybella may also be an option, as it secondarily allows for skin tightening/lifting as well. Showing some before and after pictures can help determine what might have happened. The key thing to determine every time a liposuction or Smartlipo is done is if the skin still has elasticity. As we age and with sun damage we get damage elastic fibers (elastosis) in our skin. The more elastosis the less the skin will shrink. If liposuction is done on a skin that does not shrink, the you will still have excess skin. The younger the patient is the more success isolated liposuction or Smartlipo has.Hope this helps,Dr. Gus Diaz
