Would I have to take out a nipple piercing to get smart lipo on abdomen?

While it's unlikely that bacteria from the breast would directly invade the surgical field from an abdominal lipo, it is not impossible. You should do everything in your power to reduce the risk of infection including removing all body piercings.

I think that it is safe to keep the piercing in during the procedure. I love doing SmartLipo, so I hope you have a great result!

I do not remove my patients piercings and have had no issues with liposuction on patients who have piercings.  Unless they are specifically in the treatment area and going to block or interfere with the surgery. Best, Dr. Emer.

Generally speaking, piercing in the treatment ares should be removed but the piercing in distant sites do not have to be removed. For example, is the liposuction is done on the neck and chin, the person would not have to remove the piercing from the nipples.SmartLipo DOES NOT USE ELECTRIC CURRENT through the body.Please review this with your doctor.

I recommend removing all jewelry prior to surgery for many reasons. However if your nipple ring is difficult to remove there shouldn't be any problems as it is away from the area of your abdominal liposuction.

Simply YES! Because the nipple jewelry is metal and conducts electric currents. So when doing SmartLipo it is generating power by electricity. The risks is a burn. Why has your SmartLipo doc NOT discussed this with you? 

I generally recommend that my patients remove any metal nipple piercings and replace them with a plastic spacer during cosmetic procedures.  This minimizes the potential of cautery issues if a bovie is utilized during the case.   It is not always a requirement for Smartlipo.   Would check with your plastic surgeon to determine his or her preference.
