Manysurgeons use permanent sutures in rhinoplasty without any significant risk ofinfection from the sutures. In myexperience I have never had an infection due to permanent monofilament suturesin the nose. Implant materials such assilastic and gortex do carry a small risk of infection.
Sutures that go away are less likely to have problems, in general. That being said, it's very unlikely for monofilament permanent sutures to cause problems. I know different docs that use both types. Focus more on the doctor and their results than some of these details... you will be much less stressed that way!

Not every rhinoplasty requires sutures placed in the nasal tip, but when they do, we use dissolvable stitches that take approximately 6-8 months to dissolve. In our practice, the sutures used on the inside of the nose are dissolvable in the first week after the rhinoplasty procedure.
