I had rhinoplasty 2 years ago when I was 18 but I've noticed the bone of the bridge growing over the last 10 months or so in a way that has made my nose asymmetrical and my gp said she noticed that I've got some buckled cartilage. Will it continue to deteriorate and is there a possibility my nose could collapse?
Answer: Buckled cartilage after rhinoplasty It is difficult to predict what is happening to your nose without knowing how the surgery was done. There are many different and precise manipulations that can be done in a rhinoplasty surgery to change the shape and appearance of the nose. A good rhinoplasty surgeon can combine these steps to achieve a pleasing aesthetic outcome while also maintaining sound structural integrity of the bony and cartilaginous structures to ensure the nose maintains its shape and to provide adequate breathing passages. Calcium deposits can form after rhinoplasty when the bones are healing that can cause minor asymmetries. It is possible to have inadequate cartilaginous support as well. My recommendation is to see your surgeon first about your concerns.

Answer: Cartilage changes after rhinoplasty Without knowing what was done in the primary rhinoplasty, it's difficult to provide an accurate answer to your question. One has to firstly know that the bridge of the nose is composed of bone only in the upper portion. The rest of the bridge is made up of cartilage (septum and upper lateral). It is unlikely for bone to grow. Occasionally, and especially if you have thin skin, changes under the skin can become more visible over time. The next consideration is whether there has been any changes occurring to your cartilage since your rhinoplasty. It is possible if cartilage support is weak that they may bend or buckle over time. I do not think that your nose will collapse, but I think it would be advisable to see and be assessed by your surgeon.Wishing you all the very best.

Answer: Collapse unlikely but best to see your surgeon or another plastic surgeon for a second opinion. Cartilage can continue to shift over time if that was used in your initial operation. This is called warping.
