I had a septorhinoplasty / dorsal hump removal 1 month ago. I asked the doctor not to rotate my nose because I don't like the look of an upturned nose, mine was upturned enough to begin with, plus my jaws are recessed. Now the angle seems too high and short. My doctor says it will drop into an acceptable range as swelling subsides but it hasn't changed since at all during my recovery. Is there still hope? My tip is still firm and columella still swollen. This has killed my confidence.

Answer: How upturned is too upturned? Thank you for the question and photos. I am sorry to hear about your disappointment about your current rhinoplasty result. Its hard to definitively tell from the photos since they are slightly different angles. It would be interesting to measure the angle between the columella and the upper lip of your current photo and compare that to your before photo. Regardless, whats most important is your feeling of how your nose looks. If no cartilage was used such as a columella strut, the tip should come back down to a certain extent with time and as healing and swelling goes down. If the nose does not look the way you want it to when all is said and done be sure to communicate clearly how you would want your nose to change with your plastic surgeon so that discussion about what can and should be done can occur.Good luck with the remainder of your rhinoplasty recovery. All the best,Dr. Remus Repta
