Persistent Chalazion Despite Extensive Treatment - How Can This Be Removed? (Photo)
I developed a chalazion in July 2025 and sought treatment at urgent care on the same day that I first noticed it. Since then, I have pursued extensive treatment under the direction of my physicians, including incision and drainage, five injections, eyelid scrubs, OCuSOFT spray, eye drops, regular warm compresses and massage, oral doxycycline, and approximately 2,500 mg of fish oil daily. Despite these interventions, more than a year later, I continue to have two distinct lumps on the affected eyelid. One feels relatively soft, while the other is firm/hard. Given the duration of the lesions and their persistence despite extensive conservative, medical, and procedural treatment, what would be the appropriate next step to achieve complete resolution? Could these represent residual chalazion tissue, scar tissue, or another type of eyelid lesion? Would repeat incision and curettage, surgical excision, biopsy, or evaluation by an oculoplastic specialist be appropriate at this point?
