Thank you for your question! The 4.5 mm transducer goes deeper and is better for skin lifting. The 1.5 only treats the epidermis and dermis layer and tightens the skin.
Great question. With ultherpay, we have the ability to scan your area of concern and actually determine what is right depth for you. The depth is from the skin to SMAS layer and that will not depend on the laxity or your goals. Its the depth from skin to collagen layer that we measure with ultrasound and pick the transducer accordingly and treat. Good luck.
Ultherapy has 3 transducers which can be used. These go 4.5mm, 3mm, and 1.5mm deep. Which transducers to choose for treatment will depend on your skin laxity, volume, goals, etc. This can only be determined through an in-person consultation and evaluation with an experienced provider. The standardized one-size fits all approach used by many med spas just does not work for everyone. Hope this helps answer your question.
The depths are used differently in different areas depending on the situation being treated. The eyes versus the jowls for example. Ultherapy is a great treatment, but a combination approach is needed to get the most improvement. I recommend Ultherapy with RF treatments, lasers, microneedling/PRP or sculptra to get increased collagen, tightening and improve skin tone. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer
Ultherapy, as mentioned by the other physicians, has different transducer depths. In an average individual, the 4.5 mm depth targets the SMAS layer which causes tightening and lifting. Then, the 3.0 mm transducer targets the dermis, promoting new collagen development within 3-4 months. This improves the texture and tone of your skin. The 1.5 mm transducer is useful for fine lines, or for individuals with very thin skin, and even less subcutaneous tissue. An experienced doctor will be able to interpret the Ultrasound tracings, to give you the best possible results, including tightening and lifting of your face/neck/chest.
The 1.5mm transducer is the most superficial Ultherapy transducer and works best for superficial "crepey" type skin. Ultherapy works best when used in combination with other treatments. I don't think it's a good choice for the abdomen or flanks. There are better treatments out there for those...
Ultherapy is a focal collagen stimulating treatment that has no bearing on the systemic disease like rheumatoid arthritis. Its usually done on the face, neck and chest area. The treatment is very superficial to the joint itself even if it is performed at off label sites. Ultherapy doesn't induce...
Two weeks post ultherapy is the appropriate amount of time to wait before starting another procedure. Botox, dermal fillers, IPL, and facials are all great to start which will help enhance the results of your treatment.
