Is is okay when steri strip falls off a little over a week post surgery?

Hello and thank you for your question,I usually remove the steri-strips approximately 2 weeks after surgery but it is very likely for some patients to have them fall off sooner.  In that case, there have been times where I have re-applied the steri-strips on the patient.  Steri-strips do indeed help protect the wound but there are some patients who react with redness and irritation.  For those patients who experience an adverse reaction, the steri-strips are removed.  I usually do not advise placing other tapes on without speaking with your plastic surgeon.  I would certainly encourage you to follow up with your plastic surgeon and see what he/she advises.  Good luck!

There is no problem with the steristrips falling off.  Just be careful with excessive friction and tension on your scar.   Ask your plastic surgeon about their scar protocol after the steris fall off.   All the best.

Hi, BarbieBoats.  Congratulations on your breast augmentation.  I routinely remove steri strips in 1 week after surgery.  If you have any concern about your incision after steri strips was removed, please contact your plastic surgeon.  Otherwise, keep the area clean and dry.  Good luck with your recovery.

As per the previous comment, sutures generally hold the wounds together.  Since you are a week out it shouldn't be a problem.  Steri strips help protect the wound but since all surgeons treat incisions differently it would be best to contact your plastic surgeon. Thank you for the question. Steri strips do not hold the incision closed. This is accomplished by the sutures your surgeon places intraoperatively. Some surgeons do not use steristrips at all. You should be fine. I hope this helps. Best wishes.
