Should I take my Nuvaring out before rhinoplasty?

NuvaRing contains synthetic estrogens which may be associated with a deep venous thrombosis. Having general anesthesia and lying on your back also is associated with deep venous thrombosis, however, that is typically with much longer operations in patients who are obese. In our practice, we look at the risks and benefits of birth control cessation and make the decision that would make the most sense for the patient. It is not likely that this form of birth control would create problem by means of tromboembolisam during or after rhinoplasty providing that birth control device is the only risk factor for blood clothing in your history. It is always best to discuss this issue with your surgeon and anesthesiologyst ahead of surgery and seek their advice. Good luck.

It is certainly acceptable to leave your Nuvaring in, and/or take birth control pills before and after a rhinoplasty procedure. More importantly is NOT to be pregnant undergoing a general anesthetic for elective cosmetic surgery
