I'd like to correct my downward grown chin and am considering a chin implant. Does this sound like an acceptable approach, and are there any other approaches I should consider?
Answer: Chin surgery You have a steep plane to your jaw with a vertical growth pattern that would not benefit from a chin implant. In order to balance your lower face and diminish the lip incompetence I would recommend a reduction and simultaneous advancement genioplasty. This one surgery would improve your horizontal projection and increase your mentolabial fold. The surgery will not change your bite and the recovery is about 3-5 days.

Answer: Yes - or a genioplasty You do need your chin brought forward. A chin implant can help though in your case sliding the jaw forward may be better as it will also reduce the downward projection.

Answer: Chin treatment options Based on your picture I think you are an excellent candidate for a sliding genioplasty. They often recommend patients stay with fillers or implants but in your case you have slightly excessive vertical height and need forward projection. The sliding genioplasty can reduce the vertical height and give forward projection. And your case I think it would be who’ve you to speak with a few oral surgeons who have extensive experience with these procedures. You’ll find the plastic surgeons tend to be biased towards implants and Oral surgeon lean more towards a more definitive correction by doing sliding genioplasty. An implant alone will not reduce the vertical height. Adding only forward augmentation will still be a nice improvement for you. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD

Answer: Correct my downward grown chin If you look at the picture, your chin is really long vertically and its really short, or non projecting horizontally. A chin implant can bring the chin forward, but not make it less long, so you'd wind up with an abnormally large chin with just an implant.. You need bony surgery in my opinion.

Answer: Genioplasty When you have a vertical facial growth pattern with inability to naturally close the lips, the tension in the chin 'muscle' is notable and the 'height of the chin' is an important factor. A genioplasty is far more indicated than an implant which may shift and resorb/fall into; the underlying bone given the muscle activity
