Can I still have plastic surgery if on antibiotics due to tonsillitis?

Question

Scheduled to have arm lift,as well as breast lift procedure tomorrow. Had gotten sick yesterday. I'm now on antibiotics. Can I still have surgery tomorrow? Had a fever but fever has subsided.

Many doctors stick by the principal that we don't operate if there is any focus of infection. This is especially true for elective surgery. I am sure you would never want to compromise a surgery which is supposed to be exciting and fun with and infection that could potentially ruin everything.

If you were my patient, I would postpone the surgery. As stated by other physicians, elective surgery should be performed when you are in good health.Consult with your surgeon for his/her recommendation.Best wishes and good luck with your arm lift and breast lift.

Elective surgery, plastic surgery or otherwise, should be done under the best conditions. Ideally, you should not have any infections, and ideally, you should be off antibiotics for two weeks before having surgery. Just being on antibiotics puts you are higher risk for a postoperative infection. Safer surgery is better surgery. Be safe.

I know it is a huge hassle to reschedule, and this includes the surgeon and his or her staff, as well as anesthesia, so it affects the whole team and many numbers of individuals. Those family, friends, and co-workers your scheduled surgery have impacted will also be affected. I get it.But think about how much if will affect all of them if you decide to proceed and have a laryngospasm that leads to a surgical or anesthesia emergency, or God forbid, death. Hi.  Sorry to hear about your tonsillitis.  Wait for that to resolve.  You don't want to be intubated when you have tonsillitis, and also, better to have no infections in your body when you have elective surgery.Feel better!
