I really don't want to and my piercings are fresh. I'm scared they will close. Is there any other alternative to keeping them on during surgery, like maybe changing the type of material?
Answer: Hot Nipples and Rhinoplasty Hi App,If you want the breast possible rhinoplasty result, take your nipple piercings off before any surgery including rhinoplasty. Your skin can be burned if electrical cautery is used during your surgery. You may already have hot nipples, but you won't want to burn them. Good luck and be well.Dr. P

Answer: Rhinoplasty and Nipple Piercings You do not have to remove your nipple piercings to undergo a rhinoplasty. I have done rhinoplasties and other facial surgeries with nipple and belly button piercings in place. If you can take them out, I would. But if for some reason you can't, you can still have the surgery done safely.

Answer: Removing surgical stainless steel piercings before a rhinoplasty Most surgery centers will require removal of all metal objects prior to any surgery, since metal objects conduct electricity when performing cautery during surgery. In our practice, we do not use any cautery during A. rhinoplasty, so it would be acceptable. It's always best to check with your operative surgeon and the surgery center where your rhinoplasty is being performed

Answer: Rhinoplasty and Nipple Piercings Dear Apanda26, Patients are instructed to remove all jewelry (nipple piercings or any piercings) and replace it with plastic jewelry. The patient may then replace the piercings back in after surgery or have the surgeon do it before the patient wakes up from surgery. While we request our patients to remove all jewelry I would make an exception regarding your situation as I do not use a cautery during rhinoplasty surgery. Discuss this with your surgeon and they will advise you of their protocol. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
