I want to have gastric sleeve surgery and liposuction, how soon have I can I have liposuction if I have gastric sleeve surgery? I'm only concerned with safety and already know that it is recommended to wait a yr to see the best weight loss results. What if I decided to get liposuction the week after my gastric sleeve surgery?

You may be required to lose weight before having gastric bypass surgery, but lipo is not a weight-loss procedure. Even after gastric bypass surgery is scheduled, it can be delayed or canceled if your surgeon determines that you are not ready for the surgery if you have not made appropriate changes in your eating or exercise habits. You will need to be at a stable weight six months following gastric bypass before scheduling any plastic surgery procedures. You will likely need body lift surgery, not lipo, to remove the extra skin and restore contours.

Thank you for your question. Generally you want to wait about a year or after weight loss surgery to have liposuction or any other body contouring surgery. You want to wait until your weight is stable for at least 3-6 months. We normally recommend this so your body is where it's going to be and we can see what areas need lipo and where you may have loose skin. It's a great idea to consult with plastic surgeon as well as discuss your options with your weight loss doctor. Having the procedures within a week of each other wouldn't be recommended.

It is best to wait at least 6 months from when your weight becomes stable after the gastric sleeve surgery before considering body contouring surgery like liposuction for your best results. Don't do liposuction while you are still loosing weight.
