I can feel my implant underneath my breasts (near the incision area). Is this normal or common?

The bottom of your breast near the incision is an area with little breast tissue coverage.  Therefore, the implant can be more palpable in this location.  Best to get an exam by your surgeon before getting too worried.  Good luck and be safe.John T. Thank you for your question. I would visit with your plastic surgeon who can best help you assess whether this is normal or if your implant is starting to drop more than desired.  This part of the breast is often thinner and can explain the palpability of the implant through the skin.

Thank you for your question, and I am sorry that this has caused you to be worried and anxious. It is not uncommon to feel an implant near the incision as this area has less tissue coverage for the implant than higher up on your chest.  Likely as a result of the back massage you became more aware of this feeling, but it is often nothing to worry about.  If, however, your breast appearance has changed significantly, I would make the case that you should see your surgeon a bit earlier to rule out any problems. 

Hello,Your Plastic Surgeon's assessment in person will be the most useful.  It is difficult to know if you are describing a little normal palpability through the thinner areas/under the breast, or if you feel some damage has been done. Totally nothing to be concerned about.  All breast implants can be felt to some degree particularly where you are the most thin---the least fat or tissue coverage, which is under the breast or in the outside - lateral breast area.It will likely change as you change positions and may diminish as the capsule around the implant naturally forms.There are some options 6-12 months from now like fat grafting if it becomes more of an issue but it should not create any problems for you...Make sure you mention to your surgeon in follow-up.Best!Dr Bengtson

This is a very common concern many patients have. When your implants are placed under the muscle the muscle doesn't cover the entire implant. The area at the bottom and side of the breast (where you're feeling) is not covered by muscle, only by skin and fatty tissue, so you'll feel the implant more in that area and it will feel differently than the rest of your breast.In some cases the tissues can thin quite a bit and in rare cases may need to be reinforced, which is a fairly minor procedure. In summary, I would have this checked out by your surgeon, but try not to worry too much

Depending on the size (And weight) of your implants, and the size of your breasts, it is not unusual to be able to feel the edge of your implants, especially if you had an inframammary incision.  THis is usually not a problem, and should not be mistaken for a breast "lump". However you should consult with your plastic surgeon anyway for the reassurance you seek.  It is not an emergency,and do not worry about it.
