After Botox for masseter reduction, you will be able to eat normally right away. As the Botox starts to take effect (full effect will usually be achieved in a week) you may notice that you fatigue more quickly than before when chewing extensively - like a steak dinner or chewing gum.
Botox can be injected into the masseter muscle to help reduce its size and ultimately improve the shape of the lower face. It can soften a prominent jaw line and help create a "V" shaped face especially in combination with volume addition to the cheek. Botox to the masseter is a reliable in-office procedure with few down-sides. Bruising and mild soreness at the injection site are common but can be limited with ice. Difficulty chewing is rare as the muscle is functional and there are accessory muscles of mastication.
Thank you for your question. After a Botox treatment to your masseter you will be able to eat/ chew normally. Best,
Botox masseter treatments will typically slim the lower face and reduce the bulk of a hypertrophic masseter muscle. Some people will notice some fatigue or discomfort early on when eating a very chewy meal such as a large steak. However, the temporalis muscle usually compensates over time and this effect is reduced. In properly selected patients masseter injections can create dramatic very pleasing changes in facial shape and balance. Hi Lovelycat,If performed properly, you should be able to eat food normally after having Botox masseter muscle reduction. As with any aesthetic treatment it is of utmost importance that you choose your treating physician very carefully based on their skill, experience, and artistic vision. Good luck and be well.Dr. P
I am wondering for what condition you are looking to get Botox? Botox along the jawline will do nothing to stop you from eating, but it can distort your smile if not injected properly. I suggest going to someone well trained for a formal evaluation. Best, Dr. Emer.
It is very uncommon to develop problems chewing following botox injection to narrow the jawline. it is possible that it may happen, however, if muscle spasm develops or there is development of a hematoma within the muscle. If this does happen the symptoms should resolve over a short period of time, and it should have little if any effect on your ability to eat food regularly. Best regards.
It should still be fine to eat food. Ask your injector exactly what muscles they are injecting and the restrictions immediately after the procedure.
If you go to askilled injector you should have very little effects from having Botox injectedinto the jawline area. A board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon arethe ones that know the most about the anatomy in this area and are best todetermine the proper amount of Botox to use in these areas.
In my experience, mpatients do not have any difficulties with chewing or eating after Botox injections to the masseter muscles. These muscles are very large and strong and are not paralysed by the small doses we use. Having said that, I do usually start with a lower dose the first time I am injecting this area in a given patient, then add more for greater benefit if necessary.
