Will semaglutide make my lipo fibrosis worse when I lose weight?

I don't see any way semaglutide will have any direct affect on fibrosis after lipo. There's a chance it may become more visible, however, if you lose a lot of fat around the fibrosis.

Semaglutide works by helping regulate appetite and promoting weight loss, but it doesn’t directly affect fibrosis or scar tissue. The fibrosis that develops after liposuction is related to the healing process from surgery, not to medications like semaglutide.

What you may notice is that as weight loss occurs, the areas of fibrosis could appear more visible since the surrounding fat decreases. This doesn’t mean the medication is making it worse, it’s simply due to changes in fat distribution.

Semaglutide can still be a safe and effective option if your main goal is fat reduction. For the fibrosis itself, many patients benefit from treatments such as massage, microneedling, radiofrequency, or other therapies to help smooth and improve the texture if it continues to be a concern.

The semaglutide would not directly affect the fibrosis that concerns you. However if you lose fat in the liposuctioned area the current fibrosis may become more visible. See your provider for further clarification if needed.

You can safely use Semaglutide after liposuction. It will not impact your fibrosis. Weight loss may help to further thin your liposuction area further improving your outcome.

To our knowledge there is not currently significant data regarding semaglutide and lipo fibrosis. That said, weight loss from semaglutide is essentially due to caloric deficit, and thus does not involve the physical inflammation or edema that can sometimes lead to lipo fibrosis.

Thank you for your question and concern. Without seeing you in person or at least seeing photos of what you are dealing with, this is difficult question to answer. Fibrosis is just scar tissue. Semaglutide will likely have absolutely no effect on scar tissue. The question is more of... how much weight you are going to lose and what the weight loss will do to your skin tone.
