Firmness in treated area after CoolSculpting? I had CoolSculpting done on my abdomen 2 weeks ago.

I am still a little swollen but for the most part my stomach just feels hard when I press on it. When can I expect the “firmness” of the treated area to go away?

It is not abnormal to experience some hard swelling after a
Coolsculpting treatment. It can take a few months to see the final result after
a Coolsculpting treatment. The swelling should subside in the next couple weeks
and your results should be visible within the next couple of months. If you are

The firmness that you are experiencing is due to the swelling in your treatment area which is very normal after a CoolSculpting procedure. After 8 years of performing CoolSculpting here at CapizziMD, our CoolSculpting patients have reported that any swelling/firmness in the treatment area resolves itself within the first 2-4 weeks. This can be typical. It can take 3-6 months for final results. To speed up healing, you can try adding hyperbaric oxygen, lymphatic massage, venus legacy or exilis radiofrequency treatments.  Keep in mind, for best results, a combination approach is needed and some people need more than one treatment with Coolsculpting. I recommend adding radiofrequency treatments like Vanquish for skin tightening and with Z wave/Cellutone for skin smoothing. However, a Vaser with ThermiRF procedure is the best combination for a toned result, but requires more downtime. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Swelling in the areas treated following the Coolsculpting treatment is common. This side effect make last up to 3-4 weeks but should be gradually returning to normal with every passing day. If you have any bruising in those areas, the swelling may persist a bit longer. These are all within the normal range of known side effects for Coolsculpting.

Don’t worry, this is a normal reaction following CoolSculpting and means that the treatment is working. The “firmness” is a result of swelling and should settle down in a few weeks as the fat cells are dispelled from your body. Massaging the treated area is helpful following CoolSculpting and will aid in a faster recovery. Normal side effects include redness, swelling, bruising and soreness. The firmness that you are noticing is very normal following a CoolSculpting treatment. This is due to the swelling and inflammation created by the treatment, so this is actually a good sign that you had an adequate treatment. Most patients will find that the swelling will improve after a few weeks but this could last a little longer. Be patient and I expect that the firm feeling will be gone in another month.
