I have had PCOS since I was an adolescent. As a result, weight loss is impossible through the ordinary method of exercise and diet. I have exercised six days per week, and consumed a well balanced daily diet of 1300 calories for several years now, but I am unable to lose any weight. I have read that weight loss may help in reducing the symptoms of PCOS. Is liposuction suitable for me?

Answer: Lipo Thanks for your question. Liposuction or an abdominoplasty could be suitable for you. As long as you receive clearance from your primary physician, you should be fine to undergo surgery. As far as you BMI, I would generally ask my patients who have a BMI of 30 to try and lose some weight before surgery day. Speak to your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon about your concerns. All the best,Dr. ResultsMiami, FL

Answer: Polycystic ovarian syndrome I see no reason why your polycystic ovarian syndrome should get in the way of having liposuction. Of course, you still have to meet the criteria of being a good candidate for the procedure. BMI is not as important of a criteria as is fat distribution.I have seen some of the highest patient satisfaction in high BMI patients. Still, this procedure is not for everyone. My practice is almost entirely devoted to body sculpting using laser liposuction and fat transfer. I suggest you consult with an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon to see if this procedure is appropriate for you. At times, we request patients get medical clearance from their primary care physician based on the extent of medical conditions a patient may have. Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
