And I don't mean scar issues or hematoma. I mean actual issues with the muscle repair. My right side of my muscle repair surgery has felt stitched down since I woke up from my surgery, 5 years ago. I questioned my doc about it for two years, until he retired. Never getting a satisfactory answer. He definitely wanted to avoid the topic. Utilized buried uninterrupted figure8 #O Nurolon suture. Answer: What are some of the potential negatives that happen with the muscle repair during a tummy Tuck If you've read some of my previous answers this is not uncommon. In the front of the muscle where we typically will sew the gristle tissue together over the outer surface of the muscle are layers of nerves and vessles that we call perforators. One row of nerves is about a inch from midline. We divide the nerve and vessel as we elevate the skin going up the abdomen to just under the rib cage. Then we sew the external fascia (gristle) over the rectus abdominis muscle together tightly down the midline. This results in flattening and shaping if your muscles have become lax but sometimes a nerve can be grabbed in a suture causing neuroma pain. I have had several patients come to me to have sutures removed. It is helpful to know whether there is a single-point of pain or whether it is the entire area of tightening which hurts. At this point the sutures are not necessary to remain in you. Your tummy will stay tight if you remove them. You might have relief of your pain by simply having somebody remove them. It all is determined by how much discomfort you are in, and although there is no guarantee that it will all go away, it has worked in my practice.
