Is it safe to have a Root Canal and Juvederm on the same day?

I had a root canal in the morning then juvederm that same afternoon. My face is hugely swollen on the side that I had the root canal. Is that from the root canal or partially from the juvederm? What should I do to reduce the swelling. It's been 3 days now and I look disformed

In the future it would be wise to space the appointments 2 weeks apart. Sleep with your head slightly elevated, use cold compresses on for 10 mins and off for 10 mins, take arnica montana orally or apply traumeel cream topically to the area. All the Best.

It is not uncommon that some patients come in after having dental work as they are already numbed from the dental procedure. I do not mind treating patients after caps or a filling however not after root canals. The reason is you may have a low grade temperature with root canal, there is an underlying infection typically in the root which will often require antibiotics and I prefer to not inject fillers at this time. I would see your treating physician from the root canal and make sure you are healing properly. The amount of swelling you discuss is not common after root canal or Juvederm. You may take some arnica for swelling and bruising, sleep elevated, watch salt intake, and see your surgeon to check your recovery process. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.

Wow, that's a lot. I personally can't handle a root canal anyway!! I would imagine the swelling is mostly from the root canal if it's on that side. Some minor swelling is common from fillers, but it is not as drastic as swelling from a root canal, so if it's excessive, it's probably more likely from that. Ice packs on and off will help. You can take Arnica, which is a homeopathic medication that helps with swelling available at your local health store or Whole Foods. Avoid Aspirin and Advil, take Tylenol if you have pain.
