What lab work do Plastic surgeons request prior to surgery? My cholesterol and triglycerides are slightly high. What is the highest blood pressure acceptable? When nervous mine goes to 147/93, when calm it’s 138/88. Would any of these disqualify me?

Answer: Pre-op labs Every doctor is a little different in what they require. Our surgery patients must have CBC, PT, PTT, and a chem. profile. Blood pressure is extremely important to be steady within normal limits. Systolic 130 or less and diastolic 82 or less. Please discuss your concerns with your surgeon.

Answer: Lab work and medical clearance before neck lift Since neck lift is done in sedation and local anesthesia in out practice, we ask our patients to have set of simple labs and medical clearance from their primary care physician or internist; patient over 40 years old also need EKG. Those that have history of high blood pressure are advised to take their regular medication morning of surgery. Additionally, we give fast acting blood pressure medication (Clonidin) to patient to take if their BP is over 140 one hour before surgery. Increased cholesterol is not a reason to do anything specific but keep taking your cholesterol meds as prescribed. Hope this helps.
