How many months does fat necrosis takes to go away?

Because mine is 4 months and is still not gone. 6 months now and my fat necrosis is not gone. It looks like a boil and to comes out and heal by itself but it taking too long to stop

A firm area of fat necrosis can sometimes take many months to soften, and a small residual lump may persist. However, a spot that looks like a boil, opens or drains, then seems to heal and comes back again at 4 to 6 months should not be treated as routine fat necrosis without an exam.

This can represent fat necrosis, but it can also be a chronic draining area, suture reaction, cyst, abscess, or infection. You should contact your BBL surgeon and be examined soon; they may need an ultrasound, culture of any drainage, antibiotics, drainage, or removal of nonhealing tissue depending on what is found. If you have fever, spreading redness, increasing pain, warmth, foul-smelling drainage, or feel unwell, seek urgent care the same day.

it usually depends on the size of fat necrosis. Smaller areas can be resolved with time. However, in some cases surgery is the only solution. I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice.

Fat necrosis is permanent, but inflammation related to the body‘s reaction of necrotic tissue should resolve within a few months.
Patients who have significant palpable, fat necrosis may have firmness and lumps that will not go away. If there’s redness and inflammation, then you may need intervention. I suggest you follow up with your plastic surgeon and get their insight and guidance.

Hello! The fat necrosis should be gone by 3 months post op, this fat is reabsorbed by the body and it's the natural process of it. In the case it's not going away, you should consult it with your doctor, but it should be gone by then.
