Implant leak. What should I do? Go to ER?

And no need to go to the ER. We see quite a few patients with ruptures who need an exchange and while I recommend getting it done as soon as possible (to prevent further breast pocket collapse or additional scar tissue from forming), it is not an emergency. Since your implants are 10 years old, best to get both of them replaced (you may need a larger size if you have more breast tissue stretch) and you may even want to get silicone implants (typically softer with less rippling). Although the sudden deflation of the saline implant is concerning to a patient this is certainly not an emergency. My recommendation is to make an appointment with her plastic surgeon and arrange for an implant replacement.

If you do not have redness or tenderness associated with a deflating saline filled implant then there is no emergency now.  Call your original surgeon and schedule an appointment or you could research and find another local plastic surgeon.  I believe that there are more Plastic surgeons in Dallas than nail salons.  See if you can find the breast implant card you usually get from your original surgeon.  It would help your next surgeon know what volume you had originally and help establish implant warranties available.  Best wishes 

Bren21, don't be scared.The saline that was put into the implant is sterile and if the implant ruptured, it will pass through you and into the plumbing.Contact your ps and hopefully, the implant is still under warranty.Time is on your side here, as long as nothing else is going on.sek

Although concerning to patients, you can relax and know that there is no medical emergency. Going to the emergency room will not be necessary. Do your due diligence and seek consultation with board certified plastic surgeons who can demonstrate significant experience helping patients achieve the outcome they are looking for with revisionary breast surgery. A leaking saline implant is not an emergency and not threatening.  Saline (salt water) when leaked gets reabsorbed into your body.  Look into finding a qualified plastic surgeon in your area for consultation.  You will need to get your implants removed and replaced.

It is common for patients to come back around the 10-12 year mark for a spontaneous deflation of one of their implants. It is not a emergency, and I would not recommend going to the ER. The saline solution is not harmful and will absorb. Cosmetically it is disturbing, but there are no health risks from the saline solution. I recommend making a appointment to see your plastic surgeon or a local plastic surgeon, and eventually look into scheduling surgery for the implant to be replaced. In the meantime look into if you had any sort or warranty on the implants so you can gather that information before you visit with the doctor.
