Should I remove my gel nail polish before surgery?

I have gel Polish on my natural nail...does it need to come off? If yes can I just paint em with regular polish?

Gel nail polish will interfere with one of the most important tools that is used during general anesthesia to tell how much oxygen is in your blood.
