Lip fillers - upturned corners.

Question

Can lip fillers be used only to give the appearance of upturned lip corners. I'm AA with medium sized lips my lips are getting thinner with age. I only want to enhance the border without making my lips bigger. Is this possible?

Lip fillers can be used to define the border of the lips. I would recommend asking for a hyaluronic acid based filler such as juvederm to create natural results that can easily be dissolved if you do not like the results. This type of filler will be temporary so it gives you the opportunity to assess whether you feel fillers are the best option for the look you're trying to achieve. Botox can also be used to create the appearance of the upturned corners.

I would use Juvederm Volbella lip filler. A special technology called Vycross is used which allows the filler to be injected in single strands which holds less water and gives smoother results. Since you are concerned with the upturned corners more so than getting plumper lips, this is a great way to specifically target that area and give you the subtle results you are looking for. Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  Lip fillers can be used to turn the corners of the mouth upward, and as you are interested in creating greater definition than volume I would advocate for a thinner hyaluronic acid dermal filler such as Volbella.  Hope this helps.

Here is how it is done.  You need a tiny line of product at the absolute lip edge between the white roll and the red roll.  This is done in both the upper and lower lip.  The purpose is to make support for the width of the mouth.  At the down turned corners volume is placed to support the lip corner.  This does not blow up the lip but it does support the corners.

Dermal fillers are commonly used to improve just the border with products such as restylane silk and volbella being particularly effective. Botox is sometimes used as well to provide the appearance of upturned lip corners. Consult with an experienced and expert physician injector to understand your options.

Hello and thank you for the question. Using filler to upturn the lip is very common. However, it works best when combined with a small injection of botox into the DAO muscle. The DAO ( depressor anguli oris) causes the corner of the lip to be downturned. By injecting this muscle, it will help the lip corner to be turned up. The injections are done in the office and takes about 20-30 minutes to perform. You should avoid aspirin / motrin before to minimize bruising / swelling. The filler in the lip is typically juvederm. The filler lasts around 6 months vs the botox which usually lasts about 3 months. Best to you.

Yes, upturn of the corners of the mouth is possible with filler. however in some cases injection of botox may help. Finally, make sure that you have a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon.

This is possible with fillers. You don't always have to make the lips bigger. Corners and lateral lips can be injected without the main part of the lip getting bigger.
