I knew from 2 weeks after my procedure that not enough tissue was taken. I started out a very full 36F and asked my doctor to get me as small as possible, that a D was too big. He said he would shoot for full B/small C. I'm spilling out of a D and none of my physical issues have resolved, let alone now my emotional distress is worse. Insurance requires 370g per side. Realistically can I expect to be able to have that much taken and have anything left? Or should I start saving to pay cash?
Answer: Navigating Second Breast Reduction: Insight on Meeting Insurance Requirements and Maintaining Desired Outcomes Hello Running Kayte 1362. Thank you for your question regarding a second breast reduction and if you can have another 370 g per side taken out to meet insurance requirements, and whether you will have anything left after your breast reduction. Thank you for your history. To answer this question, pictures and a physical examination would definitely help. However, without these at hand, in general, I believe you can still have 370 g removed from each breast and still have breast tissue left. Most plastic surgeons, when they are performing breast reductions, prioritize ideal breast shape and patient wishes over the strict requirements made by insurance companies. Since you are dissatisfied with your breast reduction results, I would suggest you discuss your dissatisfaction with your plastic surgeon. I am certain a revision can be done. Ideally, a revision can be done so that the insurance further covers a secondary breast reduction. Either way, I would suggest you consult with your original breast reduction surgeon. Good luck. I hope I’ve answered your question regarding whether another 370 g per side can be taken out to meet insurance requirements for a secondary breast reduction. Sincerely, J. Timothy Katzen, MD, FASMBS, FICS Plastic and Aesthetic Surgeon

Answer: Breast size after reduction maybe one thing that may help you make a decision is to put about 370 mL of water, using a measuring cup then may be a Ziploc bag, and hold this to your breast to get an idea of about how much tissue would need to be removed.

Answer: Surgery You did not post photos, so I cannot be specific. However, removing 370 grams of tissue is about 2 cups in size. Ask your surgeon if this is possible and still keep your nipples alive. If not, then save up for the surgery.

Answer: Reduction Without photos or an exam it is difficult to determine what you can expect in terms of size after removal of 270g of tissue. When reducing the breasts it is important to leave enough behind to ensure adequate blood supply to the nipple but also to be able to shape the breast with an aesthetically pleasing result. I encourage you to visit with a few board certified plastic surgeons to listen to varying opinions.
