I’m 29F , 5’3 120lb and I had chin lipo in March. My surgeon said that my chin fat was minimal and I could achieve my desired outcomes with just chin lipo. It is now October so 8 months out and my chin looks worse than before I started . He keeps assuring me it will get better and has done a series of 4/5 cortisone injections but it seems to not be getting better at all. I am starting to freak out at this point. Any professional opinion would help.
Answer: Anterior neck lift Thank you for your question and sharing your photographs. I think your surgeon was right in mentioning that they volume of fat tissue under the skin was relatively small. It seems that the main problem is situated deep to the platysma muscles and related to hereditary characteristics . This is best addressed through a procedure that removes the volume situated under the platysma muscles and combines reduction of fatty tissue, digastric muscles and lower part of the submandibular glands. It involves a 3 cm scar under the chin. From what I can see in the photographs, skin tightening would not be necessary.

Answer: Second opinion It would be helpful to have before and after photos to see what difference was made. I wouldn't encourage you to have more steroid injections though. This can start to thin the skin over time. You should seek a second opinion from a plastic surgeon if you don't feel your concerns are being adequately addressed. radiofrequency assisted liposuction is an option that can provide some additional skin tightening, it works particularly well on the neck.

Answer: Failed chin liposuction. Based on the few posted photos, I recommend revision of chin Lipo with possible skin excision either under the chin or a mini NekliFF combination. Best to do a virtual consult with. Expect fees to be from $4000-$10,000.

Answer: Liposuction results To make an accurate assessment regarding the outcome of any plastic surgery procedures, we always need to see a complete set of proper before and after pictures. If you don’t have it before and after pictures and ask your surgeon to forward the pictures they took. Your pictures are insufficient to get a clear understanding of the outcome of the procedure.Delivering consistent quality, liposuction, results is more difficult than most people realize. The number of plastic surgeons who truly mastered this procedure or in a small minority. Being board-certified in plastic surgery, with years of experience, and an overall good reputation does not mean somebody has mastered anyone in single procedure, especially not Liposuction. The number of plastic surgeons who can truly deliver, consistent quality outcomes, including the ability to predict what results will look like accurately, and show numerous before, and after pictures, depicting previous cases with consistency, is more rare than most people realize. We can’t really begin to make an assessment in your case. You also state that you had Liposuction of your chin. The chin itself is generally not treated with Liposuction, but the neck often is. Almost 100% of individuals seeking chin and neck liposuction have an undersized mandible. With this usually comes having an overbite dental occlusion, premature double chin, lack of jawline definition, and eventual development of premature jowls. Excess subcutaneous fat is not the underlying problem. The primary issue is almost always bone structure. That said well done Liposuction can give a stunning results on individuals who are good candidate for the procedure. Consider getting a complete set of proper before and after pictures and posting those. The following are some general guidelines for provider selection. To find the best provider, I suggest patient schedule multiple in person consultations with experienced plastic surgeons in their community. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before and after pictures of previous patients who have similar body or facial characteristics to your own. An experienced plastic surgeon should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. An experienced provider should in fact have hundreds or preferably thousands of before and after pictures to choose from for commonly performed procedures. Being shown a handful of preselected images, representing the best results of a provider’s career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results will look like in the hands of each provider. There is no correct number of consultations needed to find the best provider. The more consultations you scheduled the more likely you are to find the best provider for your needs. Take careful notes during each consultation, especially regarding the quantity and quality of before and after pictures. It’s not a bad idea to bring pictures of your own body/face to use as reference when reviewing before and after pictures. The biggest mistake patients make is scheduling only one consultation without properly vetting or comparing providers before scheduling surgery. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
