Scar revision requires a disciplined approach to address the different characteristics of scars including texture, color, level of inflammation, vascularity, and hypertrophy. Our office specializes in scar revision because we have both cosmetic dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and general surgeons within our center. The ideal scar treatment is combination therapy that incorporates vascular lasers, microfractional RF and laser, microneedling, Micro-ionization ablation, PRP, topical growth serums and polysiloxane topical gels, and surgery if indicated. I recommend Melarase PM for patients that have dark and discolored scars and Plato’s Scar Serum twice daily for all new and hypertrophic scars prior to any treatment. Anytime there's an incision in the skin, there is healing that is going on beneath the surface that takes time. Likely the redness will resolve on it's on.Treat your skin gently, follow your surgeon's advice and protect the incision area from sun and any harsh skin products. If your doctor has given you the go ahead on makeup, a little dab of concealer can help. A mineral makeup or concealer will also provide additional sun protection.
this likely needs a revision but lasers can be used as an alternative option. there are many options for hypertrophic/red scars:1. vascular lasers (yellow laser, vbeam, excel v)2. fractional lasers (fraxel, halo, erbium, co2)3. microneedling/PRP4. silicone based scar gels with growth factors5. excision +/- radiationsee an expert.Best, Dr. Emer.
Hello Ash. We would only recommend a revision if you didn't get the right amount of lift out of your procedure. If you did get the proper lift then we would recommend laser resurfacing to improve the scars. We use the Sciton Profractional for revising lip lift scars and it works by removing tiny bits of the hard scar tissue that makes the scar look uneven. The body then places new collagen, smoothing and recontouring the area.
It is too early to say. At 4-6 months-see a very experienced lip lift surgeon for a revision after the redness is gone. If the same you will need to have this scar excised and closed without tension.
Hello and thank you for your question. The best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. How long ago was your lip lift? I would recommend waiting at least six months and then you could consider having a surgical scar revision. This decision should be based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both you and your surgeon. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Scars continue to mature and improve over a year. You can continue treating your scar with various methods. Topical options include silicone-based strips or gels. Most importantly, keep them out of the sun. Overtime, your scar should continue to improve on its own. For young, old, or deeper scars that have plateaued in their improvement, microneedling with or without PRP, fractionated laser, and radiofrequency make microscopic holes in the scar to stimulate your body to remodel and fill in the scar with new collagen. I especially like a combination of a chemical peel for the hyperpigmentation and acne control, microneedling with PRP for texture and collagen building, and PIXEL fractionated laser or RF to resurface and build even more collagen. For large or more severe irregularities, a scar revision or re-excision may swap out your old scar for a less noticeable one in a single procedure. Not everyone is a candidate for all the treatment options however as certain skin types can get worse from certain treatments. For the safest treatment plan, it is important to visit an expert for an in-person examination. Hope this helps!Johnson C. Lee, MD Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon
