Question

I have had cracked corners on the side of my lips all year long. I've tried 1% hydrocortisone and anti-fungal cream to treat it. After a few days, I noticed the redness and the irritation from eating spicy/salty food was gone. However, I was left with these lines on both corners of my lips. I am scared to open my mouth because my lips are constantly dry and I keep getting more of these lines. I am using vaseline to keep the areas moisturized by preventing more lines. I'm not sure what to do.

Understanding the process by which scar revision is recommended is relatively easy. We first characterize the scars physical and physiologic features such as redness, inflammation, growth, thickness, and then identify lasers and injection treatments vs. surgery that work best for that particular scar. 
Scar revision requires a disciplined approach to address the different characteristics of scars including texture, color, level of inflammation, vascularity, and hypertrophy. this is angular cheilitis and it has no cure, injections of steroids, fillers and lasers all help.  moisturizing is good and steroid/antifungal creams. till will come and go forever.  Best, Dr. Emer.
