Will Botox help me with my gummy smile? (Photo)

Question

Hi everyone, I have struggled with hiding my smile for a long time and I finally have an appointment to try Botox in 2 weeks. I am just curious if Botox alone will help improve my gummy smile. I’m not looking for perfect results but would love an improvement. Is this something that can be accomplished with Botox or would I have to add some lip filler? I’m hoping for any type of opinions so when I go to my appointment I’m not only releastic but have some knowledge on what is best. Thank you

Hello, and thank you for your question. Yes, Botox is commonly used for treating a gummy smile. When Botox is injected into the muscles in the upper lip, it causes them to temporarily relax. As a result, the tension that causes your gums to show can be reduced, and you can then enjoy a natural-looking smile that actually reveals your teeth. I recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with a reputable board-certified facial plastic surgeon, particularly one with an extensive experience with injectables. Experienced facial plastic surgeons will know where (and how much) to inject Botox for gummy smile reduction and deliver the best, most natural-looking results possible.

You should expect a good response with Botox to decrease the upward pull of your lip. Lip filler would be a nice touch, but Botox alone will help. You could start with Botox, wait 2 weeks then evaluate if you would like to try filler.

Botox is commonly used for gummy smile and is very effective.  Keep in mind it can take up to two weeks for you to see your final result.  The product effects will wear off gradually over three to four months.  You can determine if you'd like to add a little volume with filler as well.  Enjoy your treatment!

Botox for your gummy smile is very easy, inexpensive and helpful. Only about 3 units total of Botox are needed - 1.5 units injected into the LLSAN muscle on each side of your nose. Within a week your gummy smile will be gone for about 3-4 months.

Botox and fillers will have a very mild effect on your gummy smile. Even though there will be some improvement, I am not sure if you will be happy with the final outcome. I believe you need maxillary bone reduction for the best possible result.
