So when I give a 'relaxed' smile i.e. posing for pictures, selfies, etc. I really like my smile and I show almost no gums, but when I'm laughing/genuinely smiling my top lip goes really high up. Is it possible for Botox to fix the gummy laugh without changing my relaxed smile?
Answer: Things you should know about Botox Thank you for submitting your question and photos. Botox is an ideal treatment option for addressing a gummy smile. The gummy appearance is often caused by excess movement of the muscles around the upper lip which reveals the teeth and gum line. A conservative amount of Botox can target the precise muscle to significantly reduce the appearance of the gums when smiling. Since this muscle movement only occurs when smiling, the relaxed smile should remain unaffected by Botox injections. I recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with an experienced, board-certified injector who can address your concerns and help you decide on the best approach to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

Answer: Botox For Gummy Smiles Botox has been used for many years now for treating gummy smiles and has proven particularly useful for the kind of gummy smile shown in the photos provided. It typically takes only a microdroplet of Botox in a specific region on the side of the nose into the muscle directly responsible for the excessive lip elevation to achieve the desired result without affecting the ability to naturally smile. Hope this helps. Best of luck.

Answer: Gummy smile begone Great question. There are multiple facial muscles that act on the lips when you smile. There are muscles that act at the corners of the lip of widen the mouth and elevate at an angle (zygomaticus major and minor) leading to the characteristic smiley face. However, there are also muscles that act on the more mid-portions of the upper lips to elevate it vertically. It is this muscle group (levator labii superioris alaeque nasi) that requires slight weakening to avoid gum show while smiling. A small amount of neuromodulator (Botox, Xeomin, Dysport, Nuceiva) properly placed will reduce the pull up effect of that muscle to reduce gum show.Hope this helps

Answer: Yes You Can! Yes, Botox only works to reduce the excessive inward curling of the top lip during spontaneous laughter or exaggerated smiling. A relaxed smile will remain the same, as this does not require excessive muscular use.
