Singing involves use of your airways, so I would imagine toying with your nose could possibly have some effect on the way you sound when you sing. Has anyone had experience with a rhinoplasty affecting their singing voice? What are the possible risks for singers? (I’m thinking more in the 6 months and beyond post op— I don’t think I’ll want to sing a whole lot in the first week after surgery)
Answer: Rhinoplasty and voice There is definitely a strong possibility that you may have subtle or profound changes in your singing voice if you have a rhinoplasty procedure. Any alterations in the appearance of your nose can affect your nostril width, septum if that is also operated on and hence the resonance of the air through your nasal cavity so I would proceed with caution.

Answer: Does rhinoplasty affect your singing voice? Rhinoplasty would not be expected to cause a change in your singing voice. Only if you had severe nasal obstruction prior to surgery that was then corrected after surgery, ie going from a "nasally" voice to a normal voice. Otherwise, there should not really be any change in resonance or quality of the voice after rhinoplasty. The only thing I can think of otherwise would be the breathing tube placed for anesthesia. I have never had anyone have any voice issues post-operatively from intubation, however.

Answer: Rhinoplasty and singing Dear Velvet, Rhinoplasty can affect your singing only if it affect your nasal air flow. A very common maneuver in rhinoplasty is in fracturing of the nasal bony slopes , in order to narrow the bridge of the nose after hump removal. This is why it is crucial for the surgeon the assess the nasal cavity and rule in or out septal deviation and turbinates hypertrophy. If the septum is deviated and the turbinates are enlarged, you can have complete nasal airway obstruction due to the in fracturing of the bony slopes. Complete or almost complete blockage of your nasal airway can definitely affect the quality of your voice. So, do your due diligence carefully and choose your surgeon wisely. Always, consult with experienced board certified plastic surgeons who operate in accredited surgery center for your safety. Most importantly, check the before and after pictures, to make sure that they are numerous, consistent and attractive. Best of luck, Dr Widder

Answer: Rhinoplasty and Singing Despite that a rhinoplasty affects the nasal airways, its effects on one's voice and singing may only be a very temporary one if at all. Nasal congestion and swelling can temporarily partially block the nasal passages but this is not a long-term effect and will have no long-term effects on one's singing.
