At two months after Breast Augmentation, will massaging inward bring in breasts closer? (photos)

Thank you for your question and photos.  No, unfortunately inward massage will not change the position of the implants.  Your implant needs to be centered under the breast and the nipple, which it is.  The borders of the breast and muscle will not allow the implant to shift towards the center.  It is settled where it needs to be, in the breast pocket.

The width of cleavage that you have after breast augmentation is largely determined by how much space you have between your breasts to begin with before your operation. You appear to have a nice result, and based upon your anatomy, it may not have been possible to bring your implants closer together without putting you at risk for symmastia ("unaboob"), where your breasts implants appear to be touching.Massaging will not bring your breasts closer together. Thanks for sharing!

You have great results based on your before pictures. You can try to message your breast but I would not expect much improvement. You chest wall anatomy dictates the position of the implants and if you desire more cleavage, fat grafting is your best option.

Trying to push the implants closer is a mistake. Your body determines how close the implants can be together. The correct location of the implants is to be centered behind the nipple. If your nipples are far away before the surgery the implants will be far away after the surgery. If your nipples are close together before the surgery the implants will be close together after the surgery. If you put the implants too far to the center and they are not centered behind the nipple it will make the nipples point to the side. If you put the implant to high the nipples will point down, if you put the implant to low the nipples will point out, if you put the implants too far to the middle the nipples will point out, if you put the implant too far to the sides the nipples will point in. You cannot change your anatomy it'll look weird if you try.

You had a wide space between your breasts preoperatively and look to have a great breast augmentaion result. Massaging your implants will not give you more cleavage.  In patients with your anatomy, I offer them fat transfer to the cleavage either at the same time during their augmentation or post-operatively if they want more cleavage.  Hope this helps!

Hello! Thanks for your question.So massaging or patient implant manipulation really only give the implant a bit of breathing room around the capsule layer that forms around the breast implant. It doesn't really (and shouldn't) cause the implant to shift to any degree outside of the boundaries of the pocket that was created during surgery.As far as your breasts being somewhat separated - that's just a manifestation of the fact that your breasts were quite separated before your augmentation. The augmentation does help bring them a bit closer together, but there are definitely limits to this. In reality, you don't want your implants to be any further closer than they are now. If your implants were forced inward, your nipples would then be so lateral on the breast mound that they would look quite strange.Overall you have a nice result. It seems your breasts are as close as they can be without the benefit of a bra to push them together.Hope this helps.

Obviously massage is a good practice and I encourage all my patients to start massage early in their recovery.  At two months the massage is still going to be effective for you.  Make it a part of your daily routine.  I suggest to my patients massaging as part of their morning shower routine or nightly routine to be consistent.  Your implants may not get closer but the massage will help to soften the capsule and relax the middle tissues allowing the implants to settle medially.  Daily massage and don't worry too much.  You haven't missed an opportunity to get benefit from the massage.

As the other surgeons have mentioned, massage will not affect the cleavage in your situation. As seen in your preop photos, the breasts and nipples are laterally located with resultant wide cleavage. This is just your anatomy. Massage sooner or later after the surgery does not change the horizontal position of implants.Implans are usually centred around the nipple and in your case, since nipples were far apart to begin with , placing the implants any closer would have caused the breasts to look lopsided.
