Will my breast grow after an eating disorder?

I'm 15 years old and I was diagnosed with anorexia. I only lost about 15 pounds but my breast shrank from a B cup to an A cup. Will my breasts grow any larger? Is there anything I can do to increase the size of my breast? What's the best thing to do?

As weight increases, you might see an increase in breast size. If in a few years you are still not satisfied with the size of your breasts, you should consider meeting with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon about possible breast enhancement surgery (the only permanent and effective way to increase the size of the breasts).All the best!Dr. ResultsMiami, FL

weight loss, causing your cup size to go from a B to an A, means a decrease in
the fatty tissue of your breast.  This
should reverse itself with weight gain.

Breast volume can be made up substantially of fat. Genetically determined, weight gain may result in increased volume of the breasts.

find that breasts are particularly in the formative period, very sensitive to
variations in weight.We have a number
of patients who have been slightly underweight and who have regained breast
volume when they have achieved a more normal weight.

Generally
we recommend that you get to a normal weight and then assess your breast shape
and size and if you are not happy with them, consider possible surgery at that

Because your breasts decreased in size as you lost weight, it is likely that they will increase in size as you regain that weight. Additionally, at age 15 you have not completed puberty, so you can reasonably expect your breasts to continue to develop and mature for a few years.Traci Temmen, MD
