Catheter ablation done in 2019. Is elective surgery still possible? Considering a rhinoplasty.

Hello, I got a catheter ablation back in 2019 for WPW, I had now SVT present it any symptoms. I found it on a routine EKG. After. The ablation I haven't had any problems since, the extra electrical pathway is closed off. I just seen a cardiologist this year (2022) and she says I'm doing great. I have been considering a rhinoplasty, can I still get elective cosmetic surgery?

Hello,
Generally it is ok to have a rhinoplasty surgery. It is better for you to check with your cardiologist about any concern of having a surgery under general anesthesia and let your facial plastic surgeon know about your condition.

Having an ablation should not restrict you from having cosmetic surgery. You want to find the right surgeon for you, and be sure to tell them about your cardiac history. Seeing as though you had recently seen your cardiologist, they may want those records. Otherwise, there shouldn't be any reason why you cannot have a rhinoplasty.

It is in your best interest to establish contact between your plastic surgeon, cardiologyst and anesthesiologyst and let them discuss possible risks of surgery. Most of rhinoplasties, in particular including septoplasty, are done in general anesthesia but is some cases local or twilight anestesia may be considered. Good luck.

It is possible to have elective cosmetic surgery.  When thinking about prior heart issues, general considerations include recurrence of symptoms, functional status, and need for blood thinners.  Based on your description, you have not had any recurrence of your arrhythmia.  You would need clearance from your cardiologist as well as stopping any blood thinning medications, if needed.

When it comes to cardiac issues every case is different . Your plastic surgeon would need to get clearance from your cardiologist and you would need to come off blood thinners if you are on them

Are you a candidate for rhinoplasty? when it comes to cardiac issues, the person who knows best is your cardiologist. Your plastic surgeon will rely heavily on the assessment of the cardiologist about your operative risk. Your surgeon will probably also review the case with the anesthesiologist if your cardiologist permit you to go forward

As long as you're not having any symptoms when exercising, have normal sinus rhythm, and clearance from your cardiologist, you should be a good candidate for elective rhinoplasty surgery.

The decision for or against elective cosmetic surgery will be based upon the evaluation by your cardiologist. Preoperative clearance for surgery will be required to ensure safety.
