Hi, I am 17 years old and in my senior year in high school and I want to get a rhinoplasty before I go to college. I run a pretty competitive level and I want to be able to train for the upcoming cross country season the summer before I go to college. I have always been self conscious of the large bump on my nose and I do have minor debated septum buts its nothing to bad. So when could I optimally get you and how long will it take for me to start training heavily for cross country season next fall?
Answer: Rhinoplasty for Athletes Yes, you can get a rhinoplasty and you should take 3 weeks off from exercise and athletic activities after the surgery.

Answer: When can I run again following rhinoplasty surgery? It is best to refrain from any intense physical activity for 4-5 weeks after surgery. Not doing so can increase swelling and delay your healing time. Each surgeon has their own specific post-operative guidelines for his or her patients to follow, and I would recommend communicating any concerns to your prospective surgeon. I hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck.

Answer: Can I get a rhinoplasty if I am a serious athlete and how long will be until I'm able to run again? And when should I get it? You would need at least 2 weeks after rhinoplasty to continue training. Find a plastic surgeon with ELITE credentials who performs hundreds of rhinoplasties and rhinoplasty revisions each year. Then look at the plastic surgeon's website before and after photo galleries to get a sense of who can deliver the results. Kenneth Hughes, MD Los Angeles, CA

Answer: Rhinoplasty Recovery for Athletes One key to returning to full activity after any kind of plastic surgery is to be sure you do so in a way that keeps additional swelling at bay. Most doctors will advise you to refrain from vigorous exercise for 2-4 weeks after surgery. You probably know your body well, and since you may want to take as little time away from your sport as you can, I would suggest you start exercising gradually during the post-op period. You can begin walking a few days after surgery, adding distance as you see that swelling remains under control. You might be able to do your first light, short run in just 2 weeks or possibly 3. Choose a highly qualified, experienced board certified plastic surgeon for your rhinoplasty and follow their instructions. Elliot Jacobs, M.D.New York Plastic Surgeon
