When will the redness from lipo (cannula) scars will fade away? (Photos)

Scars tend to mature and fade and over the course of a year.  Laser may be appropriate in some patients.  Scars though small will never totally disappear.  Scar placement and minimizing the total scar burden are important when the liposuction is performed.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Thank you for your question and photos. This highlights very important technical points about the surgeon's technique. It is obvious that the liposuction poke holes were placed in areas that cannot be hidden and no skin ports were used to protect the skin from friction burns from the cannula movement in-out through the skin hole.I personally use stealth incisions (pubic area, inside belly button, breast crease in females, areola in males, armpits), and also use skin ports not to damage the skin. This does not leave any stigmata of liposuction surgery.Nevertheless, what's done is done and you are left with wide, long, red and depressed scars. Would try laser surgery to fade them and/or surgical repair to make these less conspicuous. Good luck.

Dear rodbrown20,in most cases, scar will need at least a year to fully mature. As it matures, it should fade and become less visible. You might try laser treatment in order to reduce redness. If you are considering a treatment, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon.
