Is it safe to return to work 3 days after Liposuction?

Question

I just had Liposuction on Wednesday under local anesthesia. I had my upper, lower abdomen & love handles... so a total of 6 parts... Today is my 3rd day... I am supposed to be going back to work tomorrow. I am a cocktai server at a casino meaning 8 hr shifts walking around, and carrying a tray full of drinks. Is 4 days after surgery ok to go back?? & can i take if the garment my dr put on me to go to work? Thank youuu! I got 1200cc fat removed....

If you were returning to a sedentary job, three days would be adequate to recover from 1200cc fat liposuction.  In your case, walking 8 hours/day and carrying a full tray of drinks would warrant a discussion with your PS who can gauge whether your recovery will permit you to go back to the schedule you describe.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Thanks for the question. It’s too early to comment over the result. First couple of weeks after the surgery you can back to work and couple of weeks later your permanent recovery will start. It’s possible to see some major changes in Liposuction results till the end of 12 months recovery. I wish you all the best

You should be following a strick post procedural protocol, including lymphatic massage and compression which we do for at least 7-10 days post liposuction.  I suggest you speak t o your physician about returning to work.  Best, Dr. Emer.

nahomy17.   Your board-certified plastic surgeon is the best person to answer this particular question. However, in general, if you feel strong enough to work, you should be able to return to your job without causing problems. It may slow down your overall recovery and it may be better to wait 1 or 2 more days and return to work after seeing your surgeon. Good luck!

Hello, and thank you for your question.Liposuction recovery time can vary depending on the technique used by your surgeon and whether the patient was under local or general anesthesia. As far as recovery from the surgery, the first 3 days are the most painful, and you can expect to be sore for 1-2 weeks and will also require pain medication for about one week at least - at which point patients can likely return to work. At only 3 days post operative you will need to consult with your surgeon and get an approval to do so.
