I'm redeveloping a double chin a year after Submental Liposuction. Why is this happening?

Fat recurrence can occur after liposuction/liposculpture, especially if there is body weight fluctuations or if only a small amount was removed at the initial treatment.  Without seeing the area and getting a better history it would be very difficult to know how to answer your question.  It would also be best to bring your previous surgery information to any future doctors you speak to regarding this.  You may need a tissue tightening procedure such as thermage, ulthera or pelleve to help as well as another (laser) liposuction treatment. Genetics play a huge part in where we store fat. Lipo does not change that. I would consult your surgeon for a review of the options. A small chin implant may be the right way to go with repeat lipo. Good luck!

You answered your own question.  By having a round face, wide chin, weak jawline and the infamous variable of aging, you are at risk for recurrence.  Also, if you have had weight fluctuations and a "weak" chin, you would be at even higher risk.  You are probably genetically inclined to have this feature.  As long as your skin remains good quality, you may do a liposuction revision.  Once the skin shows laxity, be cautious of further liposuction.  You may not like the loose skin as compared to the area of fat.  It is a trade off.If I can be of further assistance, please contact my office.Thank you.
