When I had Belotero injected for the fine lines in my lips, I had initial bruising, and was happy with the results. However, one month later, I developed a swollen lips. One day it was the right side and I used ice to minimize swelling, then 2 days later I woke up with a bigger swollen left side. (See photo) could this happen one month after the procedure?
Answer: Beletero Hi, sorry you are having a problem. Yes, you can have swelling a month later or even many months later. This can be serious (granuloma [body reaction to a material or germ], infection, biofilm). You should return to your doctor as soon as possible for diagnosis. All the best,"Dr. Joe"

Answer: Late swelling after lip fillers is unusual Late swelling (> 1 week after injection) and certainly at 1 month after injection of a HA filler is unusual and can be related to granuloma formation or FB reaction or less likely, an infection.Seek immediate guidance from the injecting physician.

Answer: Biofilms and Granulomas can take months to develop Any filler we inject is a foreign body. These fillers are injected in a sterile manner, so that there is no bacteria in the injection. However, there is bacteria on your skin. The injection can introduce the bacteria from your skin under your skin. Normally, your body fights any small infection with the immune system. However, our immune system does not do a great job of fighting infection that is hiding in a foreign substance, like a filler. If a filler has bacteria on it, this is called a biofilm and is very difficult to eradicate untill the filler disappears.Return to your physician so that this finding can be addressed.Good luck.

Answer: Adverse reactions to fillers Hii have never had any patients with this kind of reaction to Belotero, Restylane or Juvederm but it is possible. It is more common with some other fillers like Hydrelle and more common in patients with autoimmune or collagen vascular diseases. See your doctor or injector immediately to possibly have it melted.
