I've read that during a BBL, a surgeon will only be able to inject as much fat as the patient's skin allows. Meaning that once the skin has been stretched, no further expansion is possible. Do patients who get a round 2 of BBL do so because their skin is still capable of taking in more fat, or is it because the skin has adapted to the previous BBL and now allows further expansion? Thank you.
Answer: BBL and Skin Elasticity Hello, thank you for your excellent question! It is correct that the surgeon is limited in how much fat he or she can transfer to your buttocks by how much laxity you skin allows to accept more fat. After the procedure however only about 50-70% of the fat originally grafted to your buttocks will survive, the rest will be reabsorbed, therefore if you go in for a second Brazilian butt lift, you will be able to add onto the final results of the first procedure using the space of the fat was reabsorbed. I hope you find this helpful!

Answer: BBL: Skin elasticity and round 2 About 50% of the fat that is transferred lives and becomes a part of you. This will hold stable as long as there is no weight fluctuation. The percentage of fat survival in the BBL the second time should be about the same. Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Answer: BBL: Skin elasticity and round 2 Hello dear!! Thanks for the question and provided information as well. About 50-60% of the fat transferred survives long term. If you have a second round the same amount of fat will become part of your body. The fat transfer, often called Brazilian butt lift has become extremely popular because it allows your plastic surgeon to transform your entire shape. You improve your waist, hips and of course your buttock, to give you a beautiful heart shape. I recommend you to make an appointment with a board plastic surgeon for a good evaluation and to talk about your goals. Good luck :)

Answer: Skin expansion and 2nd BBL Hello, thanks for your interesting question. It is indeed that there are some limitations as the skin laxity and the available amount of fat to transfer. When the patient wants too much volume and there is no room to graft because the skin is too tight, the patient might need to return for a round 2, when the skin has already stretched and it would accept another round of grafted fat. Please make sure that you and your surgeon are on the same page. Don't forget to discuss all your concerns, options and expectations thoroughly. Have a safe and pleasant PS Journey! Answer: Indications for a secondary BBL A substantial percentage of the fat injected will not survive. As the fat dissipates the buttocks will shrink and allow for more volume to be added at a later date. It's not so much the skin elasticity the limits how much volume we can give it but rather the connective tissue you that anchors the skin turn the underlying muscle layers that creates turgor or pressure during a BBL. This connected tissue it does not stretch very much. Best, Mats Hagstrom M.D.
