I presume from your question that you are having some swelling post-lip filler. If this is the case, we recommend ice to the affected areas instead of heat to reduce the swelling in the area. Your provider should have given you specific post-filler instructions which you should follow. If they did not, they should have and we make sure this is part and parcel of the injection process in our office. Make sure all the injections are given in an office of a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon — the experts in the anatomy, the injection techniques, and how to best minimize any potential adverse events.
The best treatment to reduce swelling and/or bruising post filler is a cold compress, not heat. Heat increases the blood flow to the area, which can cause more bruising and swelling in the area. Ice the area for 10 minutes on, and 10 minutes off for the first 24 to 48 hours. Also to reduce the risk of bruising from any injection you should avoid advil, aspirin or naproxen medications, a minimum of 1 week prior to and after injections. Tylenol products are ok.
