Local aesthesia can be safe, but the procedure can be difficult to perform as the patient tends to have residual areas of sensation during the procedure.
Hello, thanks for your question and provided information. Most of board certified plastic surgeons uses epidural block with sedation, patient completely sleeping, pain free.
Thanks so much for reaching out. I think is is a terrible idea to do this surgery under local anesthesia. If you want a major transformation than the amount of liposuction and change in positioning just cannot be done with an awake patient. I’m sure there are providers that would offer to do this under local and it can be technically accomplished but you will be dramatically decreasing your results. If you are most concerned about being put to sleep, your best bet is to find a board certified plastic surgeon that you trust that works with board certified anesthesiologists at a certified center.I hope this helps :)
Both are options for your BBL procedure - but you need to find out what is best for you. Usually local anesthesia you will still feel everything that is going on but no pain, versus general anesthesia - you won’t remember or experience any feeling of any part of the procedure. If there is a lot of liposuction / liposculpting to be done - in my opinion, I would recommend more than local anesthesia.
Hello It is important that you have confidence in your doctor, he or she knows which procedure is the best for you. I suggest you discuss with your plastic surgeon all your concerns. It is possible to perform this procedure under local anesthesia, but your surgeon is the one to give you this options for your personal case. Regards Dr. Israel MañonCertified Plastic Surgeon
I have done it under local and under general. I will say the majority of those that I do are under general. It can be done under local with nice results. Good luck with the procedure!
Local anesthesia is used in a a number of procedures. More importantly they injection of fat should be respect your anatomy to provide you with a safe and optimal results.
While there are some doctors that perform BBL surgery under local the majority of PS, including myself, perform the surgery under general anesthesia. This allows for a more aggressive surgery in terms of both the liposuction as well as the transfer of the fat to the buttocks. It is also painless intraoperatively. If the PS is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and operated in an accredited operating room you can be feel safe that you are in good hands. Good luck!
