Had otoplasty under local anesthetic on Monday. Today am in agony. Any suggestions? (photos)

Question

This morning left side of face has swollen, in the afternoon I saw surgeon who changed bandage. Explained I can't hear out of left ear & severe pain in throat on same side from lobe to collar bone, area feels solid and tight and even light touch causes excessive pain this area is also red. Can't open mouth fully properly to eat as very painful, even slightly turning my head either way causes much pain.

The symptoms you are describing are not typical of normal recovery. I would be highly suspicious of a brewing infection. My suggestion would be to return to your surgeon to have the dressing removed and a thorough exam performed. You should definitely be on an antibiotic and pain medication as well.

My suggestion is too call your surgeon as soon as possible and have him check on you once again. Infection after otoplasty is not common but when it occurs one should be treated immediately with antibiotics.
