Is my post lipo/hip fat transfer garment supposed to be this tight?

I ask my patients to wear the adjustable compression garments that I provide to help obliterate dead space and reduce the incidence of fluid collections for 4 to 6 weeks, but you should ask your PS.  I have received no complaints about wearing the garment other than its itchy quality.  Wearing a soft t-shirt under it resolves this problem.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Compression garments for liposuction sites should be snug only. Some ridging from the garment is inevitable and acceptable. If it is too tight you can cut a "slit" in a few areas to decrease the tension. Good luck.

I recommend following up with your Doctor to make sure your garment fits correctly. I have my patients wear customized compression for 3-6 weeks straight then overnight for 3-6 months after their procedure. For liposuction after care, I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. My philosophy is that garments should be "snug" but not too tight. Since each surgeon has their own preferences, I would recommend that you contact your physician's office for specific recommendations.

Thank you for your question. Compression after Liposuction is key, this will allow your body to heal evenly and give you better results. The garment should not be too tight but snug, you can also try buying lipo foam to help prevent any marks. Its best you consult your doctors office to see what they recommend. Best of luck!
