One week after Rhinoplasty, is this normal? (photos)

Question

Today is one week since my septoplasty with rhinoplasty. My doctor is laryngologist who also does rhinoplasty. He had great results before. I am very concern, I am one week after surgery and I still have blood coming out to my throat and also some yellow liquid coming out from my nose. Today I fell cold and I am shaking. My nose is very big. I am still taking antibiotics. My doctor in on vacations for another week. Also I fell like my nose is super swollen. Is that normal?? Thank you for your help

Based on what you've described, an infection could be possible. I wouldn't wait for your plastic surgeon to return from vacation. Please make contact with his or her office to see if another doctor is covering for your doctor while he or she is unavailable.  Be sure to describe what you are experiencing with the yellow liquid coming from your nose, along with the chills and shaking, so they are well aware of your concerns. Everything could be perfectly fine, but it's best for you to be examined to make sure all is well.

Your can very well be expected after rhinoplasty.  However, with the shaking and chills and the yellow liquid coming out of your nose, I would get evaluated to rule out an infection.  Contact your doctor's office first and inquire if there is a partner or someone else who does rhinoplasty who could check on your nose.

Thank you for the question and sorry to hear about your recovery.  Swelling is normal after a rhinoplasty and at one week after your procedure its expected that the swelling would still largely be there.  Some blood coming from the back of the throat may not be worrisome if there was bleeding during surgery and the blood was not prevented from going into the back of your nose and throat.  The perceived chills and shaking is a little concerning and should be evaluated for an infection.
